Pet Charities of South Florida

Pet Project
Nonprofit organization that serves the needs of low-income pet owners who are living with AIDS or terminal or disabling conditions and illnesses. The Pet Project offers comprehensive services designed to enable their clients to keep their animal companions. Services include an animal food bank, referrals to subsidized or low-cost veterinary care, dog walking, litter box maintenance, Grooming, foster care, and adoption when necessary.  

Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
The South Florida Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is a non-profit organization which seeks to stop animal cruelty, abandonment and neglect and is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and placement of horses and other animals. 

Tri County Humane Society
The Tri County Humane Society is a not-for-profit, NO KILL organization dedicated to saving animals in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade Counties. They help as many animals as possible on Death Row at other facilities. They try to stop the killing of over 45,000 unwanted pets in Broward County, 65,000 in Miami-Dade County, and 60,000 in Palm Beach County each year. They place as many animals as possible in their no-kill shelter and then find them wonderful loving homes.

Daily Bread Food Bank of South Florida
Not-for-profit organization that feeds needy people and improves their lives by providing food and other grocery products; and by educating and engaging our community to fight hunger and poverty. They are the largest food bank in the State of Florida. Daily Bread operates on a very simple principle: reduce hunger by reducing waste. 20% of all food produced in the United States every day goes to waste.

Palm Beach County Literacy Coalition
The Palm Beach County Literacy Coalition is a non-profit organization that includes literacy providers, media, area businesses and concerned citizens. In Palm Beach County, 22% of adults function at the lowest level of literacy and 40% of our Children enter fourth grade unable to read at grade level. The Coalition works with other organizations in its continuing efforts to open new worlds to adults and Children with literacy needs in our community.

Society of the Four Arts of Palm Beach
The Society of the Four Arts is a nonprofit cultural organization founded in 1936 by a group of prominent Palm Beach residents to meet the cultural needs of the growing resort community. The four arts which constitute the Society’s mission are music, drama, literature, and art. Every season from November through April, The Four Arts presents notable speakers, concerts, films, educational programs, and art exhibitions to the public.

The global leader in the fight against breast cancer with innovative, non-duplicative grant awards and education programs. They continue to be the world's largest, boldest and most progressive grassroots network of survivors and activists, the only organization fighting to cure breast cancer at every stage.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward
The service provided by Big Brothers Big Sisters is based on the premise that youth, in order to reach their full potential as men and women, need the influence of mature, responsible and responsive adults during their formative years. Where that influence is inadequate due to parental limitations or absence, the youth may be deterred in reaching his/her potential as a responsible adult. The service provided by Big Brothers Big Sisters is designed to meet the needs of such youth through the provisions of an adult Big Brother and Big Sister mentor. 

Children's Home Society of Florida
Established in 1902, Children’s Home Society of Florida (CHS) is one of Florida’s oldest private nonprofit organizations providing services to Children and families. CHS delivers a unique spectrum of social services designed to protect Children at risk of abuse, neglect or abandonment; to strengthen and stabilize families; to help young people break the cycle of abuse and neglect; and to find safe, loving homes for Children. Last year, CHS helped to improve the lives of more than 90,000 Children and family members.

Gold Coast Down Syndrome Organization
The Gold Coast Down Syndrome Organization has been serving families of Children with Down syndrome and related disabilities in Palm Beach County, Florida since May 1980.  A family support group advocating for improved outcomes for all people with Down syndrome, Dads, Moms, Grandparents,  Siblings and the Child with Down syndrome are always welcome. They have informational activities as well as those designed to enhance physical and social development of Downs Syndrome Children. 

Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida
The mission of the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Southern Florida is to grant the wishes of Children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy. In 1980, Christopher Grecius, a young boy from Phoenix, Arizona, wished to be an Arizona State Trooper for a day. Chris' magical wish was fulfilled when the Arizona Department of Public Safety arrived by helicopter to pick him up, take him for a cool "ride" around the city, fit him with his own uniform, and swear him in as an honorary State Trooper. Since Chris' wish was granted, they haven't stopped! More than 151,000 wishes have been granted by Make-A-Wish chapters. The Southern Florida chapter was founded in 1983.

Best Buddies of Broward
Best Buddies is an international 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with more than 1,400 middle school, high school, and college chapters across the country and globally. Our mission is to enhance the lives of people with intellectual disabilities by providing opportunities for one-to-one friendships and integrated employment. Founded in 1989 by Anthony Kennedy Shriver, Best Buddies has developed into six programs – Best Buddies Middle Schools, High Schools, Colleges, Citizens, e-Buddies and Jobs – positively impacting more than 350,000 individuals worldwide annually. Locally, Best Buddies Broward has chapters in three colleges, 27 high schools and one middle school, as well as the Citizens (adults) program and e-Buddies (e-mail friendship) program. Best Buddies Broward also supports Business Buddies, a social networking group for young professionals.

Wheels for Kids in Palm Beach County
Nonprofit organization, founded in 2003 by Denise Jungbert in honor of her daughter, Ashlee, who has Cerebral Palsy (CP). The organization was originally established to provide wheelchairs to handicapped Children afflicted with CP living in Palm Beach County who are financially unable to purchase them on their own and who do not qualify for public funding or other charitable sources.  They now accept applications for any Child living in Palm Beach County with a long term disability that will benefit from the aid of a customized or stock mobility device. Wheels for Kids, Inc.’s ultimate goal will be to make sure every Child who needs a custom-made mobility device receives one from Wheels for Kids after exhausting all other sources.
